Spanish railway infrastructure operator Adif will invest some EUR 8.8 million (USD 13.31m) to replace 456 of the current wooden level crossings with non-slip rubber ones, the company said yesterday.
According to Adif, the new crossings will provide greater security.
Under the project, level crossings between platforms at railway stations will be removed and substituted for special flyovers for disabled people. Moreover, horizontal and vertical signs are expected to be improved.
Rubber level crossings, which are more resistant to adverse weather conditions, offer better electrical isolation. In addition, they reduce noise pollution and the risk of accidents.
