The value of South Kalimantan's rubber exports in 2009 is expected to drop by as much as 80 percent, a local foreign trade official said.
"Until September 2009, the value of South Kalimantan rubber exports was recorded at 38 million US dollars," head of provincial trade and industry office's foreign trade section Siti Djumiah said here on Wednesday.
The amount is much lower than that in the same period in 2008 which reached about 129.4 million US dollars, she said.
"The calculation until September showed a decline in the value of the rubber exports by up to 70.50 percent and it is estimated the figure will continue to decline," she said.
Yet, she said, since the beginning of September 2009, rubber prices which had earlier slumped to US$ 1.2 per kilogram from US$ 3, had now risen 2.2 US dollars per kg.
However, the rubber export price increase was not followed by an increase in demand from rubber importers both in Europe and Asian countries, Djumiah said.
Although the rubber price had risen, but the market had remained quiet, so it did not affect the value of South Kalimantan rubber exports, she added.
