China's auto sales in 2009 exceeded 13.5 million units, making the country the largest vehicle market in the world for the first time last year, Xinhua News Agency reported Friday, citing statistics provided by an unnamed source from a "relevant department."
Vehicle sales rose 6.7% in 2008 to 9.38 million units, according to data previously issued by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
CAAM is scheduled to issue the sales data Monday, the report said.
