New Delhi, Feb 23 (PTI) The Rubber Board has received the Environment and Forests Ministry''s approval to conduct field trials on genetically modified (GM) rubber but no tests have been conducted so far, Parliament was informed today.
"Rubber Board has received permission from the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee, Ministry of Environment and Forests, to take up field trials in 0.5 hectares each in research farms of Rubber Research Institute in Kerala and Maharashtra," Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
However, Scindia said that the institute has not conducted any field trials on GM rubber so far.
