KANGAR: A thunderstorm uprooted over 5,000 rubber trees at Felda Chuping yesterday causing damage estimated at RM60,000.
Felda Chuping manager Abdullah Pirus Ishak said the rubber trees aged 3-4 years planted on a 30 hectare site would be ready for tapping in two or three years.
He said the thunderstorm which struck at 1pm also damaged three houses in Chuping, three houses in Beseri, and a house in Bintong.
State Welfare Services Committee chairman Mansor Jusoh who visited the area said the Welfare Services Department (JKM) was assessing the damage.
He said officers from Perlis Baitulmal also visited the area to offer help to victims.
Rasidah Khamis, 42, of Kampung Semadong, Beseri said that she was preparing lunch when a thunderstorm blew away the roof of her house.
She was thankful to be alive after whisking away her seven month-old grand daughter to safety before a beam fell.
