Asahi Kasei To Build Synthetic Rubber Plant In Singapore

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Asahi Kasei Corp. (3407) said Monday it will build a new synthetic rubber plant to make fuel-efficient automotive tires in Singapore. The amount of investment is estimated at 15 billion yen.

The chemical maker plans to begin operating lines in June 2013 that will process 50,000 tons of rubber annually, enough to make about 20 million tires.

Asahi Kasei will discuss adding lines on an equivalent scale by the first half of 2015, depending on demand trend.
