Commodities Buzz: China Rubber Imports Down 24 Percent In February Over Last Month


In 2009, the china's natural rubber imports were 1.71 million tons, up 1.74% year on year, according to an earlier report from China Knowledge. The February imports were 27% less than the 171,760 tons imported in January.
China imports natural rubber mainly from Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, with the imports of the material accounting for about 80% of its total consumption.
China is the largest tyre producer in the world. Reportedly, the cost of natural rubber, the most important raw material in tyre manufacturing, constitutes 40% of the cost of tyres.
