[10 Feb] Renault Reaches 800,000 Cars Produced In Brazil

The Brazilian subsidiary of French auto maker Renault said Tuesday that it has reached a landmark 800,000 cars produced in Brazil.

Renault, which said it reached the mark this week, has been producing cars in Brazil since December 1998 and is still considered a smaller brand in the country, trumped by General Motors Co., Fiat SpA and Volkswagen AG.

The company produced a record-breaking 122,400 vehicles in Brazil in 2008, declining to 121,642 in 2009 due to a substantial drop in exports.

Renault exports its Brazilian made models throughout Latin America.

It's popular cross-over vehicle, the Sandero, was ranked Brazil's Top Green Vehicle in 2010 by the locally published Auto Esporte magazine.
